April 7th and 8th : Introduction to Visual Phonics

The Kentucky Valley and Upper Cumberland Special Education Cooperatives are pleased to announce this two-day opportunity for teachers of Deaf/Hard of Hearing students, Speech Language Pathologists, and Reading teachers. Visual Phonics is a multi-sensory approach that can be used to facilitate the development of phonemic awareness, reading, spelling and speech production skills. It consists of hand cues and written symbols that represent each sound in English. Mark your calendars to join us as Kim Pitts shares how Visual Phonics allows students to “see” or conceptualize speech sounds and relate them to print.

Date: April 7th and 8th : Introduction to Visual Phonics
April 9th : Visual Phonics Implementation
• Review of all hand and written Visual Phonics symbols
• Review and discussion of how participants have implemented it in their instructions
• Viewing of videos in different settings
• Dicussion of RTI implementation
• Make and Take Session

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Registration and light breakfast will begin at 8:30 AM.

For: Teachers of Deaf/Hard of Hearing students, Speech Language Pathologists, Reading teachers, and other staff members working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. (The workshop is limited to 30 participants.)
Approved for twelve hours of CEUs by the Ky Board of Speech Language Pathology and Audiology.

Cost: $75.00 per participant for April 7th and 8th.
$35.00 per participant for April 9th (Must have had Visual Phonics two day training)
$100.00 per participant for April 7th, 8th, and 9th

*Please note: If we fewer than 25 participants register, the training will be cancelled and you will be notified.
